Polygon is a protocol and a framework for building and connecting Ethereum-compatible blockchain networks. Follow these simple steps to install MetaMask and add the Polygon network.

Install the Metamask Extension from the Store

Visit the browser extension marketplace and download the MetaMask extension.

Create a MetaMask Wallet or Import One

Select Import Wallet if you already have one or Create a Wallet if you need a new one.

Set up your password and secret recovery phrase and store them somewhere safe.

Setup MetaMask to connect to Matic Network

To add the Matic Network and switch the connected blockchain, click on the tab saying Main Ethereum Network.

Scroll down until you find Custom RPC.

Enter in the Polygon/Matic Mainnet settings as follows:

  • Network Name: Polygon

  • New RPC URL:

Click Save.

You can read more about the differences between Matic on Polygon vs. Matic on Ethereum here.

IMPORTANT: Although Ethereum and Polygon (MATIC) Networks have the same syntax and both support ERC-721, they are separate blockchains and are not directly compatible (i.e. if the token was minted on Matic's network it is not compatible on the Ethereum network).
